It lies in the slopes of Snowdon peak, a major elevation in the dodabetta range. The garden has thousands of species of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, herbal and bonsai plants. There is a 20 million old fossil tree in the centre.

The best time of the day to visit the garden is in the evening, between 3-5 pm. It can be very cold after 5 pm especially during the winter. The main shopping area of Ooty is also very close to the garden where you can buy sweaters, jerkins, shawls, a huge variety of tea products like chocolate tea, masala tea, green etc, Nilgiri eucalyptus oil and other oils, home made chocolates ad more..

Every summer, a flower show is conducted which attracts thousands of tourists from all over the nation.

If you keep walking inside the garden, at the very end you will see a path that goes upward and out of the garden to the hill, where you can see a Toda temple.
